Baltimore Ravens waive defensive end to clear space in crowded position group

With newly acquired defensive end Derek Wolfe in the fold, the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday waived Ufomba Kamalu, according to the NFL’s transaction wire.

The Ravens signed Kamalu off the New England Patriots’ practice squad in October, but he never appeared in a game with the team. Baltimore cut him after three weeks and then added the former undrafted Miami product to the Latest Baltimore News Wire practice squad, where he remained for the rest of the season.

Kamalu has played in 14 NFL games since 2016 with the Texans and Patriots. The Ravens didn’t have much room to keep the 27-year-old defensive lineman on the roster after agreeing to a deal with Wolfe, trading for five-time Pro Bowler Calais Campbell and re-signing Jihad Ward and Justin Ellis to bolster the front seven Press Release Distribution Services.

The Ravens will continue to make changes to their roster when the draft arrives April 23.

Meanwhile, Kamalu will hit the waiver wire where any team is eligible to put in a claim for him. If he gets through waivers by 4 p.m. Thursday, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent and hope to find some team who’ll offer him a chance to extend his career.
